Piling Contractors in Buckinghamshire

The Buckinghamshire job written up on this site is a multi-plot scheme. It is one example drawn from over 20 years of family experience in piling. At Moreton Road in Buckingham we installed 244 CFA piles and more than 417 linear metres of reinforced concrete beams for a multi-plot residential development.

So this is the page for housing developers and builders with several plots to found and a programme of weeks to keep. CFA piling comes first here because it is what the Buckingham job used. All three of our offices take Buckinghamshire enquiries.

Piling Buckinghamshire: 244 CFA piles across a multi-plot scheme

Moreton Road is a residential development of several housing plots in Buckingham. Our package there joined continuous flight auger piling to a long run of beams, so the substructure for every plot came from one contractor under one programme.

The piling was 244 CFA piles at 300mm and 350mm diameters. Each pile carries between 10kN and 50kN, set by the structural loading of the plot it stands under. All 244 were sonic integrity tested, not a sample of them.

CFA piling forms the pile in one continuous operation. A hollow-stem auger drills down, and the concrete is pumped through its centre under pressure as the auger is withdrawn. That keeps the soil stable while the pile is made, which matters on a site where the upper soils vary.

At Buckingham they did vary, and the installation sequence was planned around that. The aim was to keep the programme moving through each construction phase while the pile quality stayed consistent. Piles and beams together were delivered in about ten weeks, mobilisation included.

METHODS

Mini piling Buckinghamshire: single plots and tight access

The Buckingham scheme used CFA piling. A single house, an extension or a plot tucked behind existing buildings is often better served by mini piling. Our mini piles are 150mm to 350mm across, and where access is restricted we bring our 750mm wide rigs.

The mini piling jobs shown on this site are in other counties, and we will not borrow one to fill this section. What we can describe is how the choice gets made. The engineer's loads and the ground report decide the pile, and the access decides the rig.

Screw piles are a further option. They are steel shafts with helical plates, wound into the ground with no concrete, so there is no curing time and little ground disturbance. Elsewhere on this site they carry a garden building and a cottage extension, and the same would apply to a light structure in this county where the ground allows.

GROUND CONDITIONS

Ground in Buckinghamshire

Only one Buckinghamshire site is written up here, so this section reports that site and goes no further. At Moreton Road the ground was made ground lying over clay and sand strata. The upper soils were variable, and the piling sequence was planned to deal with that.

The record also shows how the concrete was detailed. Every beam sits on 85mm Cellcore anti-heave protection, and the concrete was C28/35. The write-up gives no depths for the strata and no groundwater level, so we give none. Aylesbury, Milton Keynes and High Wycombe may stand on different ground altogether, and a pile design should rest on a ground investigation of the site in question.

WHO WE WORK FOR

Piling companies Buckinghamshire: programmes that run for weeks

Moreton Road is the clearest example we have of the work this page is written for: several plots, 244 piles and a programme of about ten weeks. Our clients on schemes like it are developers, builders, groundworkers and structural engineers with drawings in hand.

On a multi-plot site the piling and the concrete have to be planned together. At Buckingham we did both, and the finished substructure was handed over as a platform ready for the superstructure to start.

For planning a programme, the range across our CFA work is 10 to 20 piles a day, and the diameter and depth of the piles decide where in that range a scheme falls.

Send the drawings, the plot layout and any ground investigation report you hold. We will list the pile type, the diameters, the quantities and the beam lengths, so the whole package can be read line by line.
