Our Leatherhead office, at Two Firs on Calvert Road in Effingham, is the nearest of the three for Surrey sites. From mini piles for a single plot to CFA piles for a whole scheme, we install the piles and build the ground beams or slab over them.

The Surrey job we have chosen to write up is Tudor Rose on Laleham Reach in Chertsey, a replacement house on riverside ground with water one metre down. It is a single example from over 20 years in piling, picked because it shows how we handle a wet gravel site.

The new house at Tudor Rose needed 27 piles and a ground beam layout under its whole footprint. We installed continuous flight auger piles at 350mm diameter with a Klemm 708 compact rig. Safe working loads ranged from 90kN to 270kN across the layout.
Every pile was reinforced with a 4H12 bar cage and sonic integrity tested. On the best production day the team completed 12 piles, a strong output for a compact rig on a residential plot.
After the piles came 120 linear metres of 600mm by 450mm reinforced concrete ground beams. Full sideform shuttering was necessary for every beam because of the loose soils and the high water table. The beams sit on 155mm Cellcore HXB void formers, with Heaveguard to the internal faces. Piles and beams together took about five weeks.

CFA PilingChertsey, Surrey
Chertsey used a compact CFA rig, but plenty of Surrey plots are tighter still. For those we use mini piling. If each pile needs to carry 400kN or less, a mini pile gives the same structural result as CFA from a rig that travels on standard transport.
Three mini piling methods are open to us because we own the rigs for each: augered, driven and sectional. Sectional augers come in short lengths and work in headroom from 2.4m, so piles can go in under a low ceiling or inside a building that is still in use. Driven steel casings suit wet or unstable ground. The engineer's design and the ground decide which is used.
Screw piles are a further option for lighter structures. They need no concrete and can carry load as soon as they are in.

We describe Surrey ground only as far as our Chertsey write-up goes. There the site investigation found topsoil over a shallow clay layer, then a band of gravel 5.75 metres thick, with deep London Clay under that. Groundwater sat just one metre below the surface.
Those conditions shaped the whole job. The piles were founded in the gravel. The beams needed full sideform shuttering because the soil was loose and wet. Void formers went under the beams because of the clay at depth. Other parts of Surrey will differ, and we would rather read your ground report than guess.

We work for developers, building contractors, groundworkers and structural engineers. This page is aimed at housing plots, commercial units and multi-week programmes. A job of a few days is welcome too.
To quote we need the drawings, the site address and the ground investigation report if there is one. We set out pile type, diameter, depth and quantities so you can see what is included. Every job comes with pile logs, concrete records and the paperwork Building Control asks for.
Our work carries a 12-year workmanship and materials warranty, subject to its terms, and we hold £5M public liability insurance. We are CHAS Accredited and our site team carry CSCS cards.
