30 SCD mini-piles and 109 linear metres of RC ground beams for a private residential foundation in Slapton, South Devon, delivered on a sloping site with variable made ground and groundwater.
Geovex delivered the piled foundations and reinforced concrete ground beam package at Carlane Lodge in Slapton, South Devon, for a new-build residential property on sloping ground. The works were designed as a single coordinated substructure programme for the site conditions.
Ground investigation data at Slapton identified variable made ground over the Meadfoot Group, with extremely weathered Devonian siltstone and silty clay beneath. Groundwater was encountered across the boreholes, confirming that conventional strip foundations were unsuitable and that a piled solution was required to reach competent bearing strata.
The piling works comprised 30 Steel Cased Driven (SCD) mini-piles at 150mm diameter, each installed to competent bearing in the siltstone and reinforced with 2H16 rebar. Safe working load was 90kN per pile, with all positions achieving the required on-site set criteria.
Following piling, Geovex cast 109 linear metres of 525 × 300mm reinforced concrete ground beams to form a suspended foundation system suited to the slope profile. The full piling and ground beam package was delivered in approximately two weeks including mobilisation, ready for superstructure follow-on works.
